The production, which officially opened March 15 following previews that began Feb. 13, recouped its entire original investment of $3.1 million last month, according to a previous report in The New York Times.

Directed by eight-time Tony Award winner Mike Nichols, Salesman played seven rather than the typical eight performances a week. The acclaimed drama, which played a total of 78 regular performances and 31 previews, was recently nominated for seven Tony nominations, including one for Best Revival of a Play.

The cast is led by Academy Award winner Hoffman as Brooklyn-based traveling salesman Willy, who, at age 63, is becoming obsolete in a changing market, shaking the foundation of his family — including Obie Award winner Linda Emond (Homebody/Kabul, Intelligent Homosexual's Guide...) as wife Linda Loman; Andrew Garfield ("The Social Network," "The Amazing Spider-Man") in his Broadway debut as favored son Biff; and Finn Wittrock (Signature Theatre Company's The Illusion) as "bum" son Happy.

The company also includes Fran Kranz as Bernard; Bill Camp as neighbor Charley; John Glover as Willy's brother, Ben; Remy Auberjonois as Willy's employer Howard Wagner; Glenn Fleshler as waiter Stanley; Stephanie Janssen as Miss Forsythe; Kathleen McNenny as Jenny; Elizabeth Morton as Letta; and Molly Price as The Woman.

The production features a re-creation of the original Tony Award-winning scenic design by Jo Mielziner, with costume design by Academy Award winner and five-time Tony Award nominee Ann Roth, lighting by five-time Tony Award winner Brian MacDevitt, sound design by Tony Award winner Scott Lehrer, hair and wig design by David Brian Brown, makeup design by Ivana Primorac, original music by Alex North and music supervision by Glen Kelly. Death of a Salesman originally opened on Feb. 10, 1949, at the Morosco Theatre. The production won six Tony Awards, including Best Play, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play. The most recent Broadway revival, starring Brian Dennehy, Elizabeth Franz and Kevin Anderson, played 22 previews and 274 regular performances at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre between Jan. 22, 1999-Nov. 7, 1999.
