Home to Cats for 21 years, the New London is currently host to South African song-and-dance show Umoja. Stephen Gately, who has been starring in Joseph in Liverpool since mid-December, will be a big box-office draw if, as expected, he heads the cast when the show opens in London at some time in March — details to be confirmed.
Joseph has been a great role for a number of young singing stars, from Aled Jones to Donny Osmond to Stephen Gately himself. Gately sprang to fame as a member of boy band Boyzone, and made more headlines when he announced that he was gay — paving the way, later, for Will Young.
