A Night at the Operetta is the first of three concerts, all part of the new Summer Broadway Festival hosted by creator and writer Scott Siegel.
Audiences can expect to hear works from Sigmund Romberg, Rudolf Friml, Victor Herbert and music from the classic operettas The Student Prince, The Enchantress, Rose Marie, Sweethearts, The Desert Song and The New Moon.
Marc Kudisch and Christiane Noll, fresh from their acclaimed performances in The Witches of Eastwick, as well as Gavin Lee (Tony Award nominee for Mary Poppins), Mark Jacoby and Sarah Jane McMahon (NYCO's The Pirates of Penzance), Paul Schoeffler (Sweet Charity), Manu Narayan (Bombay Dreams), Rebecca Eichenberger (The Phantom of the Opera), Douglas Ladnier and Ludmilla Illieva (award-winning cabaret stars), William Michals (The Scarlet Pimpernel), Karen Murphy (All Shook Up) and opera star John Easterlin are all set to treat audiences to classic songs from Broadway's yesteryear.
Creator and host of the program, Scott Siegel, said in a statement, "I've wanted to create an evening of all operetta music for a very long time. Whenever we've done a little bit of it, either in 'Broadway by the Year' or 'Broadway Unplugged,' the audience really responds. This classic early Broadway music is rarely performed but it's a rich and beautiful legacy that I think will be thrilling to hear when we present it on The Town Hall stage with this gifted cast."
The Summer Broadway Festival continues July 23 at 8 PM with Broadway's Rising Stars and concludes July 30 at 8 PM with All Singing! All Dancing!, the latter choreographed and directed by Noah Racey. Tickets are available by calling (212) 307-4100, by logging on to www.ticketmaster.com or by visiting the Town Hall box office, 123 W. 43rd Street. For more information visit www.the-townhall-nyc.org.
