News Ten Years Since Premiere, Rent Leaves a Trail of Stars Everyone who follows the theatre knows the fate of the original eight leading players of Jonathan Larson's musical Rent. The octet, then all but unknown, has produced a film star (Taye Diggs), a television series regular (Jesse L. Martin), a Tony winner (Idina Menzel), a Disney headliner (Adam Pascal), a memoirist (Anthony Rapp) and an Off-Broadway and Broadway regular (Daphne Rubin-Vega).

But what about the dozens upon dozens of performers who replaced those actors? Turns out, Rent has been a Broadway breeding ground, supplying the New York stage will a steady stream of talented new faces (some of them now even more famous and accomplished than some members of the original cast).

Rent will commemorate its 10-year anniversary with a special original-cast concert performance on Monday April 24.

Below is a selective list of the notable actors—sorted by character—who have graduated from Larson's East Village since the show bowed at the Nederlander in 1996:

Norbert Leo Butz (Tony winner for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels )
