News   Thank You For Being a Friend, Musical Parody Inspired by "The Golden Girls," Will Play Limited Run at the Beechman

Thank You For Being a Friend, the unauthorized musical parody inspired by “The Golden Girls," will return for a six-week limited engagement beginning Jan. 8, 2014, at the Laurie Beechman Theater.

The parody features a book by Nick Brennan, who also directs, music by Jeff Thomson and lyrics by Luke Jones and Cisco Cardenas.

Original cast members Chad Ryan, Luke Jones and Nick Brennan will be joined by newcomers John De Los Santos and Adrian Rifat.

In Thank You For Being a Friend, press notes state, "four women over 60 (Blanchette, the varicose-veined vixen; Dorthea, the brainy ball-buster; Roz, the lovable airhead; and Sophie, the wisecracking spitfire) are spending their golden years together in a wicker-filled bungalow in Miami. But when gay pop superstar Ricky Martin moves next door, his loud outdoor sex parties keep the quartet of cheesecake-loving retirees awake. The solution pits the gays against the girls at the annual Shady Oaks Retirement Home Talent Show: if the women win, then no more sex parties; if the gays garner top prize, the sassy seniors must serve as the party's clean-up crew. Singing, dancing and hilarity ensues!"

The production team features Cisco Cardanez (assistant director/stage manager), John De Los Santos (choreographer), Luke Jones (set design), Timothy Hart (lighting), Jessa-Raye Court (costumes), Nancy Doan (wigs) and Doug Repetti (sound).

Performances are Wednesdays at 7 PM through Feb. 12. The Laurie Beechman Theater is located inside The West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd Street. Tickets are $20, plus $15 food/drink minimum, and are available at (212) 352-3101 or www.SpinCycleNYC.com.
