The Classic Stage Company revival of Ben Jonson's classic comedy, The Alchemist, officially opens Feb. 17 and runs through March 12. Conjuring laughs with the classic comedy is an actor making his New York stage debut -- Dan Castellaneta -- whose voice is his most familiar feature; he plays Homer Simpson on Fox Television's animated comedy series, "The Simpsons." Castellaneta (Subtle) will star opposite Jeremy Shamos (Face). The other cast members include Buzz Bovshow, Johann Carlo, Umit Celebi, Reuben Jackson, Yaani King, Hillel Meltzer, Steve Rattazzi, Matthew Saldivar, Lee Sellars and Michael Showalter.
The comedy was written in 1610 by Ben Jonson, a friend and contemporary of William Shakespeare's.
Barry Edelstein directs the production, which has been described as a masterpiece of English comedy and one of the funniest works ever written.
Edelstein's creative team includes set designer Adrianne Lobel, lighting designer Stephen Strawbridge, costume designer Michael Krass and sound designer Robert Kaplowitz.
Tickets range from $25 - $35. The Classic Stage Company is located at 136 East 13 Street (between 3rd and 4th Avenues) in the vicinity of Union Square. For information call (212) 677-4210 ext. 2.
