The Gay '90s Musical, which premiered at LA's Celebration Theatre in 1994, returns to the City of Angels, August 2-31.

To create The Gay '90s, David Galligan commissioned 18 L.A. songwriters to write about what it's like to be gay in America in the 1990's. The revue contains a mix of everything from songs about AIDS to songs such as "The Bisexual Tango" (sung by three people) and "The Ballad of the Lesbian Seagull" (about two seagulls who slipped on to Noah's Ark).

The show, directed by Galligan, won him a 1994 Drama-Logue Award. The revue features songs by: Ron Abel, Billy Barnes, Tom Brown, John Bucchino, Naomi Caryl, Dale Gonyea, Dan Kael, Joel Kimmel, Wayne Moore, Bruce H. Newburg, Holly Near, Lindy Robbins, Jeffrey Rockwell, Ben Schaecter, Gary Simmons, Chuck Steffan, Gerald Sternbach, Kirby Tepper, and Rick Unterberg.

Four of the original cast members will return for this special engagement -- Peggy Hewitt, Bill Hutton, Deborah Nishimura, and Kirby Tepper. Hewitt won a Drama Desk nomination and a Drama-Logue Award for Tommy Tune's A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine on Broadway. Hutton credits include the distinction of being the original Joseph and the Amazing Dreamcoat on Broadway. The cast will be rounded out by two newcomers to The Gay '90s: Margot Rose and Bill Ledesma.

The Celebration Theatre is dedicated to doing strictly Gay and Lesbian Plays. For more information call (213)857-8085 or visit the Celebration Theatre regional listing at Playbill On-Line.
