PlayBlog The Hills Are Alive with "The Sound of Music" Reunion on "Oprah" (Video) The long-awaited reunion of the stars of the beloved film musical "The Sound of Music" took place on "Oprah" Oct. 28.

The film Von Trapps that reassembled included stage and screen stars Julie Andrews (Maria) and Christopher Plummer (Captain von Trapp), and "children" Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies (Louisa), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Duane Chase (Kurt), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl).

The film, based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage classic, tells the true story of the postulant-turned-governess Maria and how she brings music into the lives and hearts of the widowed Captain and his seven children. The family became a successful singing group in Salzburg before escaping the Nazis on the eve of World War II.

Oprah pulled out all the stops for this reunion, including an appearance by the current group of Trapp Family Singers. Now celebrating its 45th anniversary, "The Sound of Music" will be available in a newly restored DVD/Blu-ray edition in stores Nov. 2.
