News THE SCREENING ROOM: Meet Ben Fankhauser's Character in Broadway's Newsies (Video) Ben Fankhauser, who stars as newsboy sidekick Davey in the Disney musical Newsies, describes his role in the new Broadway production in the "Meet the Newsies" video series.

Fankhauser originated the role of Davey in the Paper Mill Playhouse limited engagement last fall. Newsies, the stage adaptation of the 1992 Disney movie musical, received its world premiere at New Jersey's Paper Mill, where it played through Oct. 16.

Directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun, Newsies also stars Jeremy Jordan (Bonnie & Clyde) as Jack Kelly, John Dossett (2003 revival of Gypsy) as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay (Little House on the Prairie) as Katherine Plumber, Capathia Jenkins (The Civil War; The Look of Love; Caroline, or Change; and Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me) as Medda, Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Mary Poppins) as Crutchie and Lewis Grosso (Mary Poppins) and Matthew Schechter (Elf) alternating the role of Les.

Newsies began performances March 15, prior to an official opening March 29, at the Nederlander Theatre. The limited engagement was recently extended through August. Read about it here.
