News "The Sound of Music" Costumes Sell for $1.3 Million in Auction Costumes from the movie musical "The Sound of Music" sold for a total of $1.3 million at the "Profiles in History" auction in California, according to BBC News.

The auction included the brown dress worn by Maria as she sang "Do-Re-Mi" to the Von Trapp children, as well as lederhosen worn by the children.

The 1965 movie starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 1959, starring Mary Martin, where it broke box-office records and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The 1965 film version won the Best Picture Oscar.

The Sound of Music features a libretto by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse and a score by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics) that includes "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss" and "So Long, Farewell." 

A revival of the original stage version of The Sound of Music at London's Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park, began performances July 25 prior to an official opening Aug. 5, for a run through Sept. 7. NBC will air a live broadcast of The Sound of Music, starring Carrie Underwood, on a date to be announced near the holidays in 2013.
