News   The Wiz Live! Soundtrack, With New Material, Arrives in Stores Today
The Sony Masterworks/Broadway Records soundtrack recording of The Wiz Live!, which was broadcast on NBC Dec. 3, arrives in stores Dec. 18.

The CD was released digitally Dec. 11.

The recording includes such well-known hits as "Ease on Down the Road," "A Brand New Day" and "Home," plus the new song "We Got It." Written by NE-YO, Harvey Mason Jr. and Stephen Oremus with Elijah Kelley, "We Got It" was performed in the broadcast by cast members NE-YO and Kelley, along with Shanice Williams, David Alan Grier and The Wiz Live! ensemble. The TV version also included the song "You Can't Win," which was written for the Broadway version, cut out of town, but restored for the film version.

The single "Home," performed by Williams, was previously released.

The cast featured Stephanie Mills as Aunt Em, Queen Latifah as The Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evillene, David Alan Grier as The Cowardly Lion, Uzo Aduba as Glinda, Amber Riley as Addaperle, Ne-Yo as the Tin Man, Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow, Common as Bouncer and 18-year-old newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy.

Kenny Leon directed The Wiz Live!; Harvey Fierstein adapted the book for TV. This latest incarnation of The Wiz is also on track for a full-scale Broadway revival.

Stephen Oremus, who won Tonys for Best Orchestrations for his work on The Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots, served as music director for The Wiz. Fatima Robinson ("Dreamgirls") choreographed the production, and Harvey Mason Jr. ("Dreamgirls," "Pitch Perfect 2") served as music producer.

The acclaimed production will be rebroadcast Dec. 19.
