News Theatre Seminars Commence Taping The American Theatre Wing will begin taping a new batch of "Working in the Theatre Seminars" Oct. 22 at the CUNY TV studios. The talks, which focus on four different aspects of theatrical production, will be moderated by American Theatre Wing president Isabelle Stevenson, noted theatre critic Brendan Gill and the president of the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, George C. White.

The American Theatre Wing will begin taping a new batch of "Working in the Theatre Seminars" Oct. 22 at the CUNY TV studios. The talks, which focus on four different aspects of theatrical production, will be moderated by American Theatre Wing president Isabelle Stevenson, noted theatre critic Brendan Gill and the president of the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, George C. White.

"The Performance Seminar" will lead off the tapes on Tuesday. Among the actors who will be discussing the acting craft are Jim Dale from the forthcoming Candide, Justin Kirk from Old Wicked Songs, Jean Smart from Fit to Be Tied, Daniel Massey from Taking Sides, Jay Hunter Morris of Master Class and Jesicca Boevers of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Nicky Silver and David Warren, author and director of Fit to Be Tied, and Michael Cristofer and Melvin Bernhardt, author and director of The Blues Are Running will participate "The Playwright/Director Seminar" Wednesday from 11 AM - 1 PM. Also scheduled: Mary Rodgers, composer of Once Upon a Mattress and David Henry Hwang, playwright of Golden Child.

On Thursday, from 11 to 1, "The Production Seminar" will take place featuring the Playwrights Horizons team responsible for the current Fit to Be Tied: artistic director Tim Sanford, managing director Leslie Marcus, general manager Lynn Landis, casting director Janet Foster, production manager Chris Boll, production stage manager Carol Clark and playwright Nicky Silver.

In the afternoon on Thursday, from 2 to 3:30 PM, "The Design Seminar" will present the 1996 American Theatre Wing's Design Awards to Angela Ward, the costume designer of Rent, Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, the lighting designers of Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk, Christopher Barreca, scenic designer of Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Julie Archer and Karen Ten Eyck, who contributed "Noteworthy Unusual Effects" in "An Epidog." -- By Harry Haun
