The original Broadway cast of Art, Alan Alda, Victor Garber, Alfred Molina, will reprise their roles for the show's West Coast premiere at the UCLA Doolittle Theatre in Hollywood, Jan. 19-March 14, 1998. Tickets for the Tony-winning Best Play, go on sale, Nov. 15.
Written by Yasmina Reza, directed by Matthew Warchus and translated by Christopher Hampton, the play deals with three friends and how their friendship is affected when one of them buys an all-white, modern art painting. Art opened on Broadway March 1, l998 to rave reviews and packed houses at the Royale Theatre. The current Broadway cast includes three acclaimed Brits: Brian Cox, Henry Goodman and David Haig.
In addition to the Tony Award for Best Play, Art has received the 1998 NY Drama Critics Circle Award, the 1998 Outer Critics Circle Special Achievement Award for Ensemble Work, the 1997 Olivier Award for Best Comedy, the 1996 Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy, and 1995 Moliere Award for Best Play.
