Executive produced by Harvey Weinstein and Mad Men’s Matthew Weiner and written by Semi Chellas (also of Mad Men fame), The Romanoffs will play an eight-episode season in 2018. Each episode tells the individual story of people in modern times who believe they are descended from the Russian Imperial family. Rannells and Stoll join a long list of guest stars on the upcoming program, including Mike Doyle, J.J. Feild, Janet Montgomery, and Paul Reiser.
The regular cast includes Isabelle Huppert, Marthe Keller, Aaron Eckhart, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Jack Huston, and Amanda Peet.
Rannells is a two-time Tony nominee for Falsettos and The Book of Mormon. His Broadway credits also include Hamilton, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Jersey Boys, and Hairspray. The actor is also slated to guest star on the upcoming NBC reboot of Will & Grace.
In addition to these two guest star appearances, Rannells has landed himself a pilot: Ball Street on Showtime. The new comedy series is executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and written by by David Caspe (creator of the cult favorite Happy Endings) and Jordan Cahan, who also serve as showrunners.
Stoll last appeared on the New York stage in this past summer’s Julius Caesar at the Public Theater. He starred as Marco in the 2010 Broadway revival of A View From the Bridge, and also appeared on Broadway in Old Acquaintance and Henry IV. He is a Drama Desk nominee for Intimate Apparel in 2004.
