National Tour News Tony Nominee Josh Young Will Head Cast of Soul Doctor Tour The tour, which also features Israeli singer Ester Rada, will play a three-week run in San Diego beginning in April.

Soul Doctor, the story of real-life “singing rabbi” Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone, will play a three-week run beginning April 3 at the Lyceum Theatre in downtown San Diego.

The tour will then head to the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles, May 3–13, and subsequently to the Hirsch Theater in Jerusalem in June.

Tony nominee Josh Young (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita) will star as Shlomo with Israeli singer and recording artist Ester Rada as jazz singer Nina Simone. They will be joined by Dylan Hoffinger as Young Shlomo, Martin Rayner as Father, Luke Wygodny as Moisheleh, Mitch Greenberg as Reb Pinchas, David R. Gordon as Dr. Joel, Billy Cohen as Bandleader, Mimi Bessette as Mother, Ginna Doyle as Ruth, Toni Elizabeth White as Nina's Mother, and ensemble members Abdur-Rahim Jackson, Melody Allegra Berger, Meghan Glogower, Eric Greengold, and Megan Ort, with Rick Fox on piano, Martin Isenberg on bass, Janet Robin on guitar, and Brian Radock on percussion.

Soul Doctor features a book by Daniel S. Wise, lyrics by David Schechter, and music by Shlomo Carlebach. Gabriel Barre directs and choreography is by Jennifer Lee Paulson. Music direction is by Rick Fox.

The musical played a brief run on Broadway following engagements in New Orleans, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and a run at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2012.
