News   "True Detective" Star Christian Campbell Cast in Rare Off-Broadway Revival

Off-Broadway's Mint Theater Company has announced that Christian Campbell, from the second season of "True Detective," will lead the cast of its summer revival of Harold Chapin's The New Morality. The production is presented in honor of the centenary of Chapin's death.

Performances are set for Aug. 22-Oct. 11, with an opening night slated for Sept. 21.

Campbell, brother to "Party of Five"'s Neve Campbell, is best known for playing opposite Tori Spelling in the film "Trick"; his other credits also include playing the lead in the original L.A. and Off-Broadway productions of Reefer Madness: The Musical.

The cast of the limited engagement, directed by Mint Theater's producing artistic director Jonathan Bank, also features Brenda Meaney (Indian Ink), Ned Noyes (You Can’t Take it With You), Michael Frederic (Bill W and Dr. Bob), Douglas Rees (West Side Story), Clemmie Evans ("Louie") and Kelly McCready, making her Off-Broadway debut.

Chapin's comedy The New Morality takes place aboard a houseboat on the Thames in 1911 during the hottest summer on record. The story follows Betty Jones, whose jealousy and anger finally boils over after watching her husband's careless lavishing of attention on their neighbor, Muriel. Betty's husband must then pursue the forgiveness of his wife, to her complete refusal to oblige.

The New Morality was first produced in London and later in New York in 1921, five years after Chapin's passing. It received another London revival in 1925. Known for reviving and rediscovering classic works, the Mint Theater's staging is among the few revivals of the play. Tickets are $55, available by calling (866) 811-4111 or online at MintTheater The Mint Theater is located at 311 West 43rd St.
