Using playwright David Mamet's translation, Theatre in the Square presents Chekhov's comic drama where a retired professor, his bored young wife, love-sick daughter, depressed brother and the drunken family doctor all search for happiness in their absurd little lives.

Stuart Boyd is the professor Serebryakov with Kathleen Wattis as his wife and Monica Williamson as his daughter. Also in the cast are James Donadio (Dr. Astrov), Susan Shalhoub Larkin (Mariya Voynitsky), Dikran Tulaine (Vanya), Stefano Magaddino (Telegin), Edith Ivey (Marina) and David Calhoun).

Three Jennie Award (Theatre in the Square's design citations) winners feature with Vanya: Ming Chen designed the set; Ken Yunker, the lighting and Dung Nguyen, the sound. Janet Harrell is the costume designer.
