M. Burke Walker will direct the play about two couples – one middle-aged, the other just beginning – which will officially open Sept. 15 and run through Oct. 3 at 59E59 Theaters.
The four-person cast will include Mullavey (Romantic Comedy on Broadway), Hillier (The Tempest), Townsend (Twelfth Night Off-Broadway) and Thorson (City of Angels on Broadway).
Here's how the play is described: "Charles, a retired classics professor, and his wife, Helen, are back in the apartment they shared for their entire married lives. They quietly reaffirm their deep affection for each other, the life they’ve shared, its delights and disappointments, as they toast their commitment. In a similar apartment, a much younger couple unpacks from an exhilarating trip to Greece. They settle into an empty apartment, eager to begin their new life together. Over the course of the play, two quiet, intimate evenings unfold, where the lives of two couples are irrevocably changed."
Origin Theatre Company produces the New York bow of Mathew's play, which premiered at Ireland's Abbey Theatre. Mathew's plays also include The Diamond Body, The Antigone and a new adaptation of The House of Bernarda Alba.
