Valdes-Aran, Aranas and Ewoldt Among Stars of Diverse City's Pearl Project

News   Valdes-Aran, Aranas and Ewoldt Among Stars of Diverse City's Pearl Project The Pearl Project, Diverse City Theatre Company's festival of original plays written by Filipino-American, will run from July 6-25 at the Clurman Theatre.

The complete cast for the festival will feature Obie Award winner Ching Valdes-Aran (Flipzoids, Macbeth), Raul Aranas (Miss Saigon), Alan Ariano, Alexis Camins, Andrew Eisenman, Ali Ewoldt (Les Miserables), Lydia Gaston, Christopher Kloko, Victor Lirio, David Newer, Susan Quinn, Eileen Rivera, Bonna Tek, Kurt Uy and Tiffany Villarin.


Maruti Evans will design sets and lighting, Arnulfo Maldonado will design costumes, and Elizabeth Rhodes and Graham Johnson will design sound.

The festival will feature works by Eric Gamalinda, Jorshinelle Taleon-Sonza and Kristine M. Reyes.

Gamalinda's play, Resurrection, will be directed by Michael Sexton and will star Valdes-Aran. The play, according to press notes, is described as such: "The unexplained suicide of a young woman triggers a series of relentless changes in a family, tearing it apart."

The Encounter, by Taleon-Sonza (Migration Blues, Sandman), will be directed by Nelso Eusebio. The play imagines a visit made by the incumbent Filipino President to his imprisoned political rival. Quarter Century Baby, the first one-act play by Reyes (Queen for a Day), will be directed by Adam Fitzgerald and will feature Ewoldt. The play deals with the fallout after parents visit their Filipino daughter and her American boyfriend unannounced.

Reyes' second one-act play, Something Blue, will be directed by Andy Goldberg and will feature Aranas. The play "follows an estranged father's quest to reconnect with his daughter on her wedding day."
