Classic Arts News Violent The Lesson to Open Royal Ballet Season Flemming Flindt's The Lesson, a one-act ballet about a sadistic dance teacher, will have its company premiere at the Royal Ballet on October 6, the company's opening night.
Mixed-repertory programs featuring The Lesson, along with August Bournonville's La Sylphide, run at Covent Garden through November 9. Dancer Johan Kobberg will share the ballet's lead role with Edward Watson.

According to the BBC News, the ballet, about an eager pupil who is murdered byo a psychopathic teacher, has been deemed too shocking for children, and so will not be featured in any matinees. Daytime performances will feature Frederick Ashton's Les Rendezvouz instead.
