River Song: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, a new musical adaptation of Mark Twain's classic novel, will be presented at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center Jan. 23-24.

River Song, written and directed by Gerald Maloy, will feature Kathy Garver ("Family Affair") as Aunt Polly and Drake Light ("The Walking Dead") as Homer Harper. The music includes songs from the 1973 film "Tom Sawyer," by Academy Award winners Richard and Robert B. Sherman ("Mary Poppins"). Permission to use the music was granted by Richard Sherman.

"It's an indescribable feeling, to have such a vote of confidence from Richard M. Sherman," Maloy said in a statement. "He previously allowed me to use his songs from the Disney film 'Summer Magic' in a stage adaptation two years ago. That project was so successful that he offered me his songs from 'Tom Sawyer.'"

The Niswonger Performing Arts Center is located at 212 Tusculum Blvd in Greeneville, TN. Tickets and more information are available by calling (423) 638-1679 or visiting npacgreeneville.com.
