"When I get to transform into Lola eight times a week on Broadway, that's me doing my hardest service. I love the show so much," Brady told the hosts of "The Talk."
Speaking about the important message behind Kinky Boots, Brady said that the show encourages audiences to stay true to themselves. He said that this was something he could relate to because as a child, he'd been drawn to performing but that it wasn't necessarily encouraged. "In the neighborhood that I grew up in, that wasn't always met with open arms or 'We love you.' So I learned to shut and up and to stifle that. No kid should go through that," said Brady.
"The fact that I get to give out this message eight times a week, to say: 'Be who you're going to be. Live out loud.' I love it," said the star. Wayne Brady Opens Up About His Father — And Dragging It Up as Beyoncé Before Getting Kinky
Brady also spoke about how much he was enjoying dressing up as the fierce and wonderful Lola, something that was allowing him to break certain stereotypes. "We have this thing in our culture about black men in dresses so there was a negative connotation for a second," said Brady.
He admitted he's been doing a lot of "man-scaping" in order to stay feminine-looking for the role. See the actor's Dec. 1 tweet below in which he is removing body hair, something he now has to do "every few days."
