There's definitely a party atmosphere in the West End this month.

Not only are there a string of high-profile openings — including A Streetcar Named Desire and Elaine Stritch at Liberty but, a day after Les Miserables celebrated its seventeenth birthday, today (Oct. 9), The Phantom of the Opera turns sweet sixteen.

Following the closure of Cats and Starlight Express, this is now Andrew Lloyd Webber's longest-running show, a romance blended with horror story and thriller, containing some of Lloyd Webber's most exciting music, itself a combination of pop, opera and West End musical styles.
