It will begin performances at the Savoy Theatre Oct. 3, following a four-week UK tour that begins performances at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre Sept. 3 before visiting Nottingham, Norwich and Salford Quays.
Young, whose other theatre credits have included appearing in a production of Noel Coward's The Vortex at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre and opposite Judi Dench in "Mrs. Henderson Presents," commented in a press statement, "I am very excited about the challenge of choosing Cabaret as my first musical theatre role. The role of the Emcee is a part I have wanted to play since before I started training at Arts Education in Chiswick when I first moved to London.... After the success of my latest album, 'Echoes' it feels like the perfect time to step back from pop for six months and take on the challenge of story telling in another form and what a story to tell!"
The production is directed by Rufus Norris, who last directed London Road at the National's Cottesloe, which returns in July for another season at the larger Olivier Theatre there. It is choreographed by Javier De Futos, and designed by Katrina Lindsay.
