News   William Finn's Elegies to Be Recorded by Fynsworth Alley April 28 Elegies, the Off-Broadway William Finn revue that won a clutch of admiring reviews and is now playing an extended engagement at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. The show will be recorded on April 28 at a studio yet to be named. The resulting CD will feature the original cast of Christian Borle, Betty Buckley, Carolee Carmello, Michael Rupert and Keith Byron Kirk. Elegies recently announced a brief encore at LCT of April 14-19. The new dates constitute seven performances in all (Tuesday through Saturday at 8 PM with one Saturday matinee)—nearly as many shows as the original run of nine presentations.Elegies played only Sundays and Mondays, March 2-30, at the Newhouse, performing on the set of Observe The Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme during that show's dark nights. It did not open for review until March 24. Graciela Daniele is the director, with musical direction by Vadim Feichtner and vocal arrangements by Gihieh Lee.

The tunes sung by the cast varied at early performances of the piece, but the songlist has since settled down to a set order. Among the quirky titles are "Mister Choi & Madame G," "Mark's All-Male Thanksgiving," "Joe Papp," "The Ballad of Jack Eric Williams (and other 3-named composers)" and "My Dogs." Many took as their subject people Finn had personally known but who had since passed away. Despite the heavy subject matter, many critics described the evening as buoyant and uplifting.

Finn is best known for two musicals: Falsettos, which ran on Broadway, and A New Brain, which played the Newhouse in 1998. Falsettos, an amalgamation of the musicals, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, starred Carmello in its Broadway incarnation.

Tickets, which are $40, are now on sale for the extension at (212) 239 6200 to visit online at http://www.lct.org.
