News Winther Offers Songs and Variations at the Metropolitan Room Starting Jan. 4 Michael Winther, who starred in the critically acclaimed Songs From an Unmade Bed at New York Theatre Workshop, returns to the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan Jan. 4.

Winther and pianist Dan Tepfer will offer Songs and Variations at 7 PM. Audiences, according to press notes, can expect "a unique set of well-known standards, as well as contemporary popular songs that explores the intersection between jazz improvisation, musical theatre and popular music." Encore performances are scheduled for Jan. 11 at 9:30 PM, Jan. 17 at 7 PM and Jan. 18 at 9:30 PM.

On Broadway, Winther has appeared in Mamma Mia!, 1776, The Crucible, Artist Descending a Staircase and Damn Yankees, while his Off-Broadway credits include Songs from an Unmade Bed, Hapgood, Berlin to Broadway, Forever Plaid, Predator's Ball and the original cast of Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. Winther has worked at regional theatres throughout the country, and his film and TV credits include "Independence Day," "Universal Soldier," "Law & Order," "Mary & Rhoda," "NY News," "Rocket Power" and "Wild Thornberrys."
