News World Premiere of Hellman v. McCarthy, About Famous Literary Feud, to Play Off-Broadway; Dick Cavett Will Star Dick Cavett will star in the world premiere of the legal drama Hellman v. McCarthy at the June Havoc Theatre.

Performances of Brian Richard Mori's play begin March 14, prior to an official opening March 26, and continue through April 13. The production will be directed by Jan Buttram, artistic director of Abingdon Theatre Company.

"The greatest literary feud in modern American history began on January 25, 1980 when literary critic Mary McCarthy appeared as a guest on 'The Dick Cavett Show' and declared that 'every word [playwright Lillian Hellman] writes is a lie, including 'and' and 'the,'" press notes state. "Hellman went ballistic and sued McCarthy for libel, sparking a law suit that spanned more than four years."

Cavett's stage credits include Otherwise Engaged, Into The Woods and The Rocky Horror Show, and his film work includes "Forrest Gump", "Beetlejuice," "The Simpsons" and "Bored to Death."

He was the host of "The Dick Cavett Show," which won three Emmys and aired on ABC from 1968-75 and on PBS from 1977-82. Cavett also hosted talk shows on the USA, HBO and CNBC cable networks and is the co-author of two books, "Cavett" and "Eye On Cavett."
