News XM Radio Chats Up Xanadu Book Writer Beane on "Downstage Center" June 22 Douglas Carter Beane — playwright of The Little Dog Laughed and book writer of Xanadu — will appear on the June 22 broadcast of XM Radio's "Downstage Center."

The American Theatre Wing and XM Satellite Radio present the interview with the playwright on the weekly theatrical show on XM's On Broadway (XM Channel 28). The show plays June 22 at 6 PM with repeat broadcasts Saturday at noon, Sunday at 7 PM and Wednesday at 12 AM (ET). The scribe will speak about how his Greek myths fascination led to his work on the new musical Xanadu, his former job as house staff at Broadway theatres, his big break with Advice From a Caterpillar and The Country Club as well as writing roles in As Bees in Honey Drown and The Little Dog Laughed for specific actresses — only to have those shows enjoy success with entirely different women in the leads.

Beane has also penned the plays Music From a Sparkling Planet, White Lies and Devil May Care as well as the screenplay for "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar." A founding member and artistic director of the Drama Dept., he also recently wrote the book for the Off-Broadway musical The Big Time. His upcoming projects include Mister and Missus Fitch and the musicals Lysistrata Jones and The Bandwagon.

"Downstage Center" programs run on XM and are then made available for free as streaming audio and in podcast form on ATW's website at americantheatrewing.org.
