A red Gray Line sightseeing bus, heading south on 7th Ave., was described by witnesses to the Times as speeding through the intersection at 47th St. and 7th Ave. They said the bus drove onto the sidewalk of Duffy Square, located yards away from the TKTS discount ticket booth line.

At least one traffic light fell to the ground in the accident, which also left a blue City Sights bus damaged on one side following the double-decker bus crashing into it.

The Times reports that serious injuries were suffered by three people, but they were not life threatening, while others experienced minor injuries.

Individuals in the area at the time of the crash quickly took to social media to report the news. FDNY also posted images from the scene.

The TKTS booth was not hit, and none of its employees or patrons were among the injured, according to TDF. The booth has stayed open for business. The accident follows the lowering of the speed limit on Broadway from 59th St. to 220th St., the site of 22 traffic-related fatalities since 2008, from 30 MPH to 25 MPH. Part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Vision Zero campaign, an effort across city agencies to limit traffic deaths, the lowering of the speed limit went into effect Aug. 4.
