Composer Galt McDermot will conduct the musical performance based on the Shakespearean comedy at both nights 8 PM. He will then join librettist-director Mel Shapiro and librettist-lyricist John Guare for a panel discussion moderated by Howard Stokar at the uptown New York gem.
Set to perform the work are Luther Creek (Urinetown), David Damane (Big River), Suzanne Griffin, Catrice Joseph Hart, Larry Marshall (The Full Monty), Chris Monteleone (Beauty and the Beast) and Melanie Po. Artists are subject to change.
Two Gentlemen of Verona was originally presented on Broadway in 1971 by the New York Shakespeare Festival. The cast included Raul Julia, Stockard Channing and Jeff Goldblum. The work — which took home Tony Awards for Best Score, Best Book and Best Musical — ran 613 performances before closing May 20, 1973.
Musicians to perform at the Guggenheim event include Allen Won (saxophone), Patience Higgins (baritone saxophone), John Frosk (trumpet), Vince MacDermot (trombone), Wilbur Bascomb (bass), Bernard Purdie (drums) and Galt MacDermot (piano).
