Desmond Richardson has been nominated for a 1999 Tony Award for Outstanding Featured Actor for his role in Fosse.

Richardson made his Broadway debut with Fosse, after a considerable dance resume. Richardson studied at the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, the International Sommer Academie des Tanz in Koln, Germany, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. He appeared with the Ailey repertory ensemble, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Frankfurt Ballet, and joined American Ballet Theatre as principal dancer in January '97. Richardson is also co-artistic director of his own dance company, Complexions.
