Sharing a neighborhood with club kids and slaughtered cows, Abandoned Shores, a piece by the German avant-gardist Heiner Muller (Hamletmachine), will find a brief home in the Meat Packing District on Sept. 11. On the corner of 13th Street at Washington, 16 performers will act the piece for free at 8:30 PM.
Performing will be Fawzia Afzai-Khan, Artemyz, Arthur Aviles, Hassen bven Gharbia, Laurnet Cramesnil, Dialectic, The Ex-change Project, Fakeshop, Philippe Hersant, Paola Igliori, John Ivory, Karsh Kale, Dominique Kling, John Long, Ragunath Manet, Prema Murthy, Sunita S. Mukhi, Gardner Post and Bill Shannon.
Julie Tolentino, Tjet Clark, DJ Spooky, Imani Uzuri and Six Tabula players will present their time-based installation, Endurance. DJ Spooky, aka Paul D. Miller, also composed the score for Shores.
Ibrahim Quraishi directs with technical direction by Jordan Trachtenberg. Long designed the visual sculptures.
This same production will receive a repeat performance Sept. 25 at the Festival des Arts de la Rue in Chatillon, France and an internet webcast Sept. 26 at the L.A. Edge Festival Sept. 26. -- By Christine Ehren
