Inside Track About Last Night . . . Midtown Spots that Defy Gravity It’s been a soggy summer here in NYC. But if you can get a rain-free evening, there is no better place to unwind than at one of the many rooftop bars around the theatre district. Below are some great pre/post theatre spots whose views make you feel like you're high flying...just "don't look down".

China Club

268 W. 47th St.

This outdoor lounge is the official Rock of Ages summer after-show location on Tuesday nights. 80’s cover bands provide the music for the evening and cast members are known to show up post curtain.  While this place normally comes with a cover charge, Rock of Ages ticket holders get in for a mere $5.

Bookmarks at the Library Hotel

Salon de Ning at the Peninsula Hotel

700 Fifth Ave. at 55th St.

For those looking to impress, the roof top bar at the Peninsula Hotel is the place to go.  The crowd here is very well-heeled and the cocktails can get a bit pricey, but the view is superb and it’s a good place to go if you’re with a group or if you’re flying solo.

Madison Square Terrace at the Wyndam Times Square South

341 W. 36th St. btwn Eighth and Ninth Aves.

The Wyndam Times Square boasts two great locations for outdoor dining and drinking.  Their Greenhouse 36 restaurant features tapas in a garden/greenhouse setting while the upstairs Madison Square Terrace  serves great cocktails.  The Terrace features what they call nightly “Attitude Adjustment Hours” which translates to "Happy Hour".

Me Bar at La Quinta Inn

17 W. 32nd St. btwn. Fifth and Sixth Aves.

Me Bar is a bit off the Broadway “strip”, but it’s a great place to get cheap cocktails before or after a show.  They don’t serve food here, but the staff is very friendly and accommodating and will let you bring food in or even order food to the bar from surrounding restaurants.  The view of the Empire State building is breathtaking.  Open late.
