Stritch famously guest-starred with Baldwin on "30 Rock," portraying Colleen Donaghy, the indomitable mother of NBC executive Jack Donaghy, played by Baldwin on the series. Baldwin is currently appearing in the Broadway premiere of Lyle Kessler's Orphans.

Stritch recently announced that she would retire from performing, with plans to return to her home state of Michigan. She played to starry crowds last week during her farewell concert Elaine Stritch at the Carlyle: Movin' Over and Out.

Documentary filmmaker Chiemi Karasawa ("Love, Etc"; Emmy-winning "The Betrayal") of Isotope Films is directing the film that began capturing Stritch's public and personal life in February 2011. The Tribeca Film Festival runs April 17-28.

"Alec saw the Indiegogo campaign for the film and contacted me," Karasawa told Playbill.com. "He basically said, 'What do you need? How can I help?' I let him know of our funding gap, and he offered to make an investment and become an executive producer. Having his affiliation with the film on this level is like having a wonderful ambassador – it opens doors. Elaine and I were delighted. It's [like] having a knight in shining armor arrive at the eleventh hour."

The documentary includes interviews with a host of theatre vets who have worked with Stritch, including At Liberty collaborator George C. Wolfe, Company and Show Boat director Hal Prince and Tony-winning actors Cherry Jones and Nathan Lane. Also featured are "30 Rock" creator Tina Fey, James Gandolfini and John Turturro, among others.
