"American Idol" Judges Save Contestant; Fantasia to Perform on Next Results Show

News   "American Idol" Judges Save Contestant; Fantasia to Perform on Next Results Show
"American Idol" judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson opted to use the "Judges' Save" on the March 24 broadcast of the country's biggest singing competition. Although finalist Casey Abrams received the least votes, he was saved from elimination and will continue in the competition.

Up until only five finalists remain, the judges – if they unanimously agree – had the option to save from elimination the finalist receiving the lowest number of votes. However, they may only do so once during the season. Next week, the two finalists receiving the lowest number of votes will be eliminated.

Ryan Seacrest made a special announcement at the end of the program, saying all 11 finalists will tour this summer — rather than the usual ten — because of the use of the Judges' Save at this particular point in the competition.

On March 30 at 8 PM ET on Fox, the Top 11 finalists – Casey Abrams, Naima Adedapo, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald, Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart and Pia Toscano – will sing hits from the 1980s.

During the live results show on March 31 (8 PM-9 PM ET), Season Three winner Fantasia will perform her latest hit, “Collard Greens & Cornbread,” and will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and Academy Award and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx will perform their first-ever musical collaboration. The duo will sing “Hot Wings (I Wanna Party),” an original song written for the upcoming animated feature film “Rio.”

Among the many "American Idol" finalists and/or winners who have appeared on Broadway are Fantasia, Justin Guarini, Jordin Sparks, Diana DeGarmo, Ace Young, Tamyra Gray, Constantine Maroulis, Frenchie Davis, Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks.
