Avow, the new comedy-drama by Bill C. Davis which began previews Off-Broadway at the Century Center July 14, for an opening July 27, will close on Aug. 20. It will have played 16 previews and 29 performances.

The play, about a Catholic gay couple who seek out a young priest to marry them and are thrown into turmoil when he refuses, opened to respectful but lukewarm reviews. The production stars Jane Powell, Christopher Sieber, Scott Ferrara, Alan Campbell and Sarah Knowlton.

Knowlton starred on Broadway in On the Town and Off-Broadway in La Terrasse at Manhattan Theatre Club. Powell's 20 films include the classic "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and "Royal Wedding" which co-starred Fred Astaire. She made her Broadway debut in 1973 in the musical Irene, and she has toured the country in Marriage-Go Round, Same Time, Next Year and Chapter Two for which she received a drama-Logue Award.

The next tenant in the Century Center will be Gorey Details, confirmed Brent Peek Productions, which is producing. The new work, which begins performances Sept. 26, is drawn from the macabre, pen-and ink drawings of artist Edward Gorey. Gorey died on April 15 of this year, at age 75. During his lifetime, he inspired many a theatrical venture, from the Tony Award-winning 1977 Broadway production of Dracula, which Gorey designed, to Off Broadway's Amphigorey in 1994.

Gorey Details has been in development for several years and now features as its composer Peter Matz. A constant throughout its many versions has been director and choreographer Daniel Levans.
