News Barbara Gaines of Chicago Shakespeare Theatre Awarded Honorary OBE Barbara Gaines, founder and artistic director of Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST), was presented with an honorary OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) on Feb. 10 by Sir David Manning, the British Ambassador to the United States.

The presentation ceremony took place at Manning's residence in Washington D.C. In 1999, the company moved to specially built venue on Navy Pier in downtown Chicago.

In recent years, CST has launched an international theatrical initiative, which has brought to The Windy City such London groups as Shakespeare's Globe and London's Donmar Warehouse. This July, CST will present its production of Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2 at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Gaines will be further honored on Feb. 13 at a cocktail reception in Chicago Shakespeare's Courtyard Theater.
