The presentation ceremony took place at Manning's residence in Washington D.C. Gaines founded the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in 1986 with a performance of Henry V on the rooftop of the Red Lion Pub in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. In 1999, the company moved to specially built venue on Navy Pier in downtown Chicago.
In recent years, CST has launched an international theatrical initiative, which has brought to The Windy City such London groups as Shakespeare's Globe and London's Donmar Warehouse. This July, CST will present its production of Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2 at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Gaines will be further honored on Feb. 13 at a cocktail reception in Chicago Shakespeare's Courtyard Theater.
