The performance will feature Anthony Andrews, making his Proms debut as Professor Henry Higgins, a role he previously played during the last London revival of the show at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, directed by Trevor Nunn. Eliza Doolittle will be played by Annalene Beechey. It will be directed by Shaun Kerrison, with musical accompaniment by the John Wilson Orchestra under the baton of Wilson. Other theatre-related Proms include a semi-staged production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Yeomen of the Guard, taking place Aug. 19, that will be directed by Martin Duncan, with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Jane Glover; and a late-night celebration of composer Ivor Novello's work, taking place Aug. 9 that is narrated by Simon Callow, with the Halle Orchestra conducted by Sir Mark Elder.
The concerts are broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and sometimes televised.
