The Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast will play its 1000th performance at the 1 PM Sunday Sept. 8 matinee.
Fewer than 80 shows in the history of Broadway have run more than 1000 performances.
The musical, which opened at the Palace Theatre April 19, 1994, is a stage adaptation of the Disney animated film musical with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman, and additional lyrics by Tim Rice.
