News Before the Curtain Comes Down on the Houseman, That Curtain Goes on Sale—Costumes, Pianos, Too The bad news is that the John Houseman Theatre on Theatre Row is to be demolished this spring. The good news is that a young company company could find much of what it takes to build a new theatre at a May 26 "Wrecking Ball Sale."

The sale will take place at the John Houseman Theater Center in West 42nd Street. Doors open at 10 AM. Cash only will be accepted for items, and buyers must be prepared to cart the stuff off. Among the things that must go:

  • A variety of ladders
  • Various stools
  • Tables
  • Carpets
  • 3 pianos
  • 15 desks
  • File cabinets
  • Hundreds of costumes
  • Commercial carpet steamer
  • Office supplies
  • Shelf units
  • Lighting equipment
  • Sound equipment
  • Tons of theatre related items No reasonable offer will be rejected; most items are priced under $10.

    Eric Krebs, the founder and artistic director of the Houseman Theater Center said in a statement, "I have had the pleasure of working with great theatre people my entire life and this sale is my way of saying thank you."
