Davie, of Broadway's Curtains, A Little Night Music and Grey Gardens, succeeds Wolfe (Everyday Rapture and the Encores! production of Merrily We Roll Along) in the role of Rosa Bud — the damsel-in-distress soprano who gets to sing Rupert Holmes' shimmering ballad "Moonfall." Wolfe is headed to the new Off-Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown's two-character musical The Last Five Years.
Samonsky (Broadway's South Pacific and Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson and the recent Encores! concert of Fiorello!) will play Neville Landless, a role created in this revival by Karl. Samonsky's Off-Broadway credits include Michael John LaChiusa's Queen of the Mist as Frank Russell (Drama Desk nomination) and the Encores! production of Merrily We Roll Along, plus La Jolla Playhouse's Little Miss Sunshine and American Conservatory Theater's Tales of the City. Karl is returning to the cast of Broadway's Jersey Boys.
Scott Ellis (Curtains, Twelve Angry Men) directs the Roundabout Theatre Company's Drood, with book, music and lyrics by Holmes, at Studio 54. (The show's original end date was Feb. 10.)
The revival of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical features choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by Paul Gemignani. The design team includes Anna Louizos (sets), William Ivey Long (costumes), Brian Nason (lighting), Tony Meola (sound) and Paul Huntley (hair & wigs).
The Mystery of Edwin Drood stars Stephanie J. Block (Edwin Drood), Will Chase (John Jasper), Gregg Edelman (Reverend Mr. Crisparkle), Jim Norton (Chairman) and Chita Rivera (Princess Puffer) with Jessie Mueller (Helena Landless), Nicholas Barasch (Deputy), Peter Benson (Bazzard), Robert Creighton (Durdles), Alison Cimmet, Nick Corley, Janine DiVita, Jenifer Foote, Justin Greer, Shannon Lewis, Spencer Plachy, Kiira Schmidt, Eric Sciotto and Jim Walton. The musical version of Charles Dickens' unfinished novel is told by a rowdy ensemble of actors in a Victorian London music hall. The audience famously determines the killer at the end of the show.
