The solo show was previously reported to be Broadway-bound. A representative of Crystal's told Playbill On-Line (May 20) it was too soon to make an official comment on the work in progress.
700 Sundays... recently performed a workshop production at La Jolla Playhouse as part of the Page to Stage program.
Building upon material used in his live benefit performances of An Evening with Billy Crystal and His Special Guest David Steinberg in 2003, Crystal continued work on 700 Sundays — which uses the actor's personal stories. La Jolla artistic director Des McAnuff directed the California run.
"Last year's benefit performances were greatly informative and this is a terrific opportunity to take the next step," previously said Crystal in a release. "It's incredibly unique to have two weeks of rehearsal and then still have the opportunity to continue to rehearse and change the work as part of the Page To Stage program. The piece you see at the beginning of the run may not be the same by the end of the two weeks!"
Crystal, who hosted the Academy Awards for the eighth time in 2004, has recently appeared in "Analyze That," the sequel to "Analyze This." Other films credits include "Running Scared," "City Slickers," "Throw Momma From The Train," "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally," and "America’s Sweethearts." He also provided the voice of Mike in the animated "Monsters Inc." Crystal also received lauds for his directorial work on the HBO film "61*" which he also executive produced.
