As previously reported, the cast will also feature Sally Wingert, currently on Broadway in the revival of La Bête. Directed by artistic director Joe Dowling, the classic American comedy will run April 9-June 5 on the Wurtele Thrust Stage. Additional casting will be announced at a later time.
Nielsen is no stranger to the Guthrie, having appeared in numerous Minneapolis productions during the theatre's 1980-83 seasons, including Arms and the Man, The Tempest, Our Town, Candide, As You Like It and Peer Gynt.
Wingert joined the Guthrie acting company in 1985, making her debut in Cyrano de Bergerac, and has since appeared in more than 75 Guthrie productions.
"Spinster sisters Abby and Martha Brewster are devoted to charity and family," according to press notes for the production. "But the sisters have taken on another project as well - befriending lonely older gentlemen and then poisoning them with arsenic-laced elderberry wine."
Single tickets start at $24 and are now on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at (612) 377-2224 or by visiting www.guthrietheater.org.
