Written and directed by Blank artistic director Daniel Henning, the documentary play will officially open Feb. 8 and run through March 16. Newcomers to the cast include Bruce Boxleitner ("Scarecrow & Mrs. King") as Clarence Darrow, Vicki Lewis ("News Radio," Broadway's Damn Yankees) as Florence Leopold and Susan Lurie, Charlie Schlatter as Alvin Goldstein and Dick Rubel, and Michael Urie ("Ugly Betty") as Allan Loeb and Robert Crowe. The foursome join a cast that also includes Aaron Himelstein as Babe, Nick Niven as Dickie, J. Richey Nash as Hamlin Buchman, and Caye Clark as Tommy Loeb and Bobby Franks.
Dickie & Babe, which is based on trial transcripts, medical records and other primary source material, is described as such: "Hyper-intelligent rich teens Richard 'Dickie' Loeb & Nathan 'Babe' Leopold commit one of the most shocking crimes in U.S. history — leading to the infamous 'trial of the century' with legal superstar Clarence Darrow as defense counsel. Over the years the boys' tale has been sensationalized — but the dark truths behind the crime have never been told...until now."
The Blank's 2nd Stage Theatre is located at 6500 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, CA. Tickets, priced $22-$28, are available by calling (323) 661-9827 or by visiting www.TheBlank.com.
