The evening, according to press notes, combines "elements of dance and multi-media to capture the personality, spirit and musical brilliance of the indomitable James Brown." Burnt Sugar Akrestra founder Greg Tate conducts the 18-piece orchestra; songs include "I Feel Good," "Say it Loud," "Man's World," "Please Please," "Hot Pants," "I Don't Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing" and "Superbad."
"December marks the anniversary month of James Brown's passing and our goal was to create a performance that would celebrate his extraordinary career, life and legendary music," stated director McGregor. "His complex, exhilarating and socially conscious work formed an entire musical idiom that is the foundation of pop music worldwide. The fusion of Brandon Victor Dixon’s ferocious vocals and Burnt Sugar's dynamic improvisation, results in a theatrical interpretation of the performance of an American icon."
