Barrett will eventually play opposite Melanie Griffith's Roxie Hart. Griffith—who has been making the rounds of the awards ceremonies watching her husband Antonio Banderas pick up prizes for his performance in Nine—will begin her stay on July 11. Gregory Harrison joined the Broadway company as Flynn on May 6. Others in the current cast include Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly, Tracy Shayne as Roxie Hart, Angie Stone as Matron "Mama" Morton, D. Sabella as Mary Sunshine and P. J. Benjamin as Amos Hart.
Chicago won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
