The 1990 musical Once on This Island is getting an industry reading December 2-18 in New York, according to an Equity casting notice.

Producer Ken Davenport (Spring Awakening, It’s Only a Play) previously announced his intention to revive the show on Broadway, directed by Michael Arden (Spring Awakening).

No Broadway dates, cast and or theatre have been announced.

Once on This Island, which tells the story of a star-crossed love between a dark-skinned girl and her light-skinned aristocratic boyfriend on a Caribbean island, was the Broadway debut for Tony Award-winning songwriters Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Seussical, Anastasia). The original Broadway production made a star of La Chanze.

The reading will feature Jason Michael Webb serving as musical director. The revival will have new orchestrations by original orchestrator Michael Starobin. Ann Marie Milazzo is listed as vocal designer.
