Foote is the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of The Young Man From Atlanta and many plays, teleplays and screenplays, including The Carpetbagger's Children, The Trip to Bountiful, "Tender Mercies" and Dividing the Estate, seen on Broadway earlier this season.
"Horton Foote was a prolific contributor to Broadway and we are deeply saddened by the loss of this great artist," said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League. "As a fellow native Texan, I especially enjoyed his plays that reflected the stories of his past. Our thoughts are with his family."
Foote's Broadway plays include Only the Heart, Six O'Clock Theatre, The Chase, Two's Company, The Trip to Bountiful, The Traveling Lady, The Young Man From Atlanta and Dividing the Estate.
Foote's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Young Man from Atlanta received a Tony Award nomination.
