The postponement is the result of the recent loss of one of the production's key backers. Previews were initially slated to begin on Aug. 19 at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre, in preparation for an official opening Sept. 8.

Directed by Shirley Jo Finney and choreographed by Hinton Battle, the music, movement and poetry-flecked For Colored Girls... will mark the Broadway stage debut of two-time Grammy Award winner India.Arie. The script has been revised by Shange, and will bring the tales into the 21st century.

Tickets for the production have not yet been placed on sale. A revised production schedule will be released as soon as it is available.
