News Broadway's New 'Phantom' Begins His Haunt Thomas J. O'Leary became Broadway's ninth official Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera Oct. 12, replacing Davis Gaines, who has left to star in Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical, Whistle Down the Wind.

Thomas J. O'Leary became Broadway's ninth official Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera Oct. 12, replacing Davis Gaines, who has left to star in Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical, Whistle Down the Wind.

Gaines' last performance was Oct. 5.

O'Leary, a native of Windsor Locks, CT, played the Phantom in the national tour of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical for the past year and a half.

Previously, O'Leary appeared in ensemble roles in Broadway's Les Miserables and Miss Saigon plus the national tour of Chess.

Previous Phantoms: Michael Crawford, Timothy Nolen, Cris Groenendaal, Steve Barton, Kevin Gray, Mark Jacoby and Marcus Lovett.
